Name: Krissy
Age: 26
Team: Phoenix All-stars
Position: Base
Career Goal: I would like to end up in curating
Cheerleading Goal: To expand on and debut more AA skills
Instagram name: krissy.satherley

How many years have you been Cheering?
It’s been 15 years! I started in year 7 at school and have done it ever since

Which team are you a part of or have you been previously a part of?
I am currently on Phoenix Allstars but have previously been on ICE Athletics, Kent Cheer, Allstar Heroes and Headington Bratz

Have you been to Worlds before?
No I haven’t but it’s been a dream of mine since I was 12

What’s your favourite Cheer memory so far?
Tripping over my own feet in dance and styling it out so that very few people at the time noticed

Favourite skills e.g. cheer stunt, tumble or dance move.
I love throwing baskets but we can’t do them so much in AA cheer but I also love extended full up libs

What does Adaptive Abilities Cheerleading mean for you?

I am an able bodied athlete but my sister is a para athlete, over the years I have seen how this has affected her within cheer and how she has overcome this and not let it stop her. now being a part of an AA team I see other similar athletes who are all inspirations to me and I am always in awe and it makes me want to push myself further so that we can showcase all of our skills in the best light

How did you get involved in Adaptive Abilities Cheer?
I started Adaptive Abilities in 2021 because I wanted to try something new that would push me and I have really enjoyed learning these skills and making them look just as impressive as an abled bodied group

Are there any stunts/technique or training adaptations you make which you find especially interesting?
Basing with Kaitlyn means that my main adaption is that I base on my knees and mainly rely on my arm strength to do most of our stunts instead of using my legs which is a change for me, add this in with standing up in time to catch cradles and it definitely creates a fun challenge

Why did you want to try out for this team?
Having had some experience in AA cheer I wanted to try out because I really enjoyed the challenges that were presented with the adaptations especially when working on new stunts and I would like to show these skills to the world alongside my team

What was it like when you attended try-outs for Team England AAA?
I was definitely nervous! Luckily I knew a few people already and had based with Kaitlyn previously so my nerves were quickly relaxed which meant I could get to know everyone there.

Your favourite memory from being a part of Team England AAA (So far!)
The excitement we had when we received our team tops, many of us are from different programmes with different cheer backgrounds so it was nice to have that to unify us as a team

Describe the funniest thing that’s happened to you while you were at training.
On our team we have Steve… Steve is one of the loveliest team members but we always joke that everything must be Steve’s fault as he is often found with change/party rings/his phone in his pocket, he is always providing a laugh in some form or another

What will you miss about Team England AAA and why?

The team and our set, they’re all a lovely bunch of people and before a run through we’ll do our loud set which hypes us up for the routine

What does it mean to you to represent your country?
As cheesy as it sounds It’s an honour, like I said it’s an opportunity that I didn’t think I’d ever get so now that I have it I am really excited and want to do everyone proud

What does Worlds mean to you?
Competing at worlds has been a dream of mine ever since I started cheer, and for many years I didn’t think I would be good enough to fulfil this dream. Now in (what I keep saying is my last competitive season) having been given the opportunity I can prove to myself that all the hard work always pays off and I am very excited to showcase at worlds this year

What are you most excited to experience at Worlds 2023 other than competing?

To do everything! I’m especially excited to train at TopGun as I’ve loved the programme for so long, but I’m also excited to spend time with the team at the beach and in the parks.

Name a team from the United Kingdom and internationally that you are most excited to watch and explain why?
I’m excited to see Coventry Dynamites and Top Gun, both are creative teams and have always been a favourite of mine

Are there any other AA teams you’re excited to watch?
I’m excited to see how Team Canada do in both their AA divisions this year

Name a quote that keeps you motivated.
People say nothing is impossible but I do nothing everyday – Winnie the Pooh

What advice would you give to someone who was scared to try-out for Team England this year?
Don’t be scared! We’re all a lovely bunch I promise! I told myself from the get go that if I didn’t try out then I would never know and I’d rather live knowing and growing from it rather than regretting not trying out
