Review of Future Cheer Winter Wonderland 2012

Hey guys

I had so much fun at winter Wonderland 2012 competition.  Although I was their pretty early I was buzzing for this competition I felt this was my moment and the judges were going to take notice lololol. I love arriving at comp seeing the sea of bows, curls, glitter and bright colours. You can feel the nervous energy and determination to win as the trophies stare at you from the back of the competition floor.

When I arrived, dance competition was in full flow. I was sitting and watching contemporary dance, it was beautiful to watch. You could  tell people are taking this division more seriously and getting the technical training that is required for this style of dance.

After that they was hip hop and I consider this to be just as big of a skills as ballet. Hip Hop requires a lot of skill the popping, locking, freezing , braking and it’s not a style meant for everyone.

I thought R H tom cats had a solid hip hop routine and it was nice to see guys giving the girls a run for their money. I still feel this style is majorly under developed in British cheer industry but just like cheer I know it will develop in time.

By this time I was all settle and eagerly waiting the group stunt to start has they changed the floor.

One of my highlights of the day were Surrey Twisters Cyclones in group stunt level 3 who before this I never really heard of this team but I will not forget them now . Their uniforms have taken great influence from America. Their level two team has similar cut out style uniform to Maryland twister aka F5 worlds uniform,I love the Surrey Twisters’ uniform and would gladly wear it myself. I love the whole style they have and their performance as a program is amazing lots of energy and very fierce.

Glamazons level 5 stunt group also put on a nice routine their flyer now a member of av and once a member of London city star has improved as a flyer. As a whole this stunt group ,who have gone up to level 5 have  improved their stunting skills they are more  solid a fewer bobbles and no falls  they stunted with confidents and seem to be more of a team this year.

Ncd Xtreme another level 5 stunt group team who I had never heard of before  and  came on the matt and people weren’t really watching them then boom  the flyer did a triple twist and people took notice. I was really nice to see a new team dominate the matt a team that probably wouldn’t of got notice if they were at a bigger competition.

I was really impressed with the tumbles at Winter Wonderland especially in the lower level teams like sparklers and Zodiac Fusion . Level one as I have said before is coming one of my favourite levels. It so nice to see teams maxing out tumbles in this level and having almost full tumble from a team makes me so proud. These are  the cheerleaders of tomorrow who are going to learn proper technique and tumbling skill so one day In the future it will be a British team winning worlds, I can’t wait for that day.

As usual they allowed people to warm up their tumbles and this is always one of my favourite things to watch. Last year this was mainly dominated by boys but the girls were too fierce for them this year. IT was nice to see so many fulls and few layouts which you don’t usually see at winter Wonderland. They were so many children throwing round off back hand springs and making it look effortless, I was very jealous.

Another part of the day I was looking forward to was the longest lib, loads of stunt group took to the matt and it began. I was slightly annoyed by this event because the winners were a team that had adults lifting a 10 year old girl. I think this event should be separated into two categories where children lift children

and adults lift adults to make it fairer.

The only down side of the day were for some reason there not being enough seats for teams this year and everyone having to squeeze up together. I think the reason for this is because many team seem to be coming from far so had a lot of stuff and didn’t have anywhere to put it so people where taking up seats with luggage instead of people. Leaving people who don’t arrive early with anywhere to seat so maybe Future Cheer need to provide a coat room or move to a bigger location because they are always loads of people who wish to attend the competition but can’t because the tickets go so quickly.

My last disappointment note of the day was certain teams I wanted to see compete weren’t there.  Dc49 didn’t compete in contemporary dance or level 2 senior cheer, I loved both of their performances last year. Reading superstars also weren’t their which was disappointing and lastly I always look forward to seeing London City stars who everyone wants to watch on the day.

South coast Zodiacs didn’t disappoint and dominated in every level they were in. It didn’t surprise me when they were crown Grand champ in levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 they really know how to perform. I’m also assuming that they are getting new uniforms because every squad performed in a t-shirt and shorts. I’m wondering what uniform they will get this year because they last uniform was very creative. I’m afraid if you’re looking for a video I’m afraid you will not find one as they banned people putting up videos up until after their season ends

I had load on fun at Winter Wonderland the atmosphere was electric and I love dancing to the wobble can’t wait for next year and for the season to continue
