First ever review of Varsity Ascend Cheer shoes

When looking to purchase new cheer shoes, it’s so important to spend time thinking about what you want and need from a shoe. As this sport develops you need a shoe that can handle jumping, stunting, and tumbling. You also need to make sure that it is comfortable and that it fits properly. Selecting the right shoe needs to be high priority, because it can affect how you perform throughout the season. Lastly, most cheer shoes aren’t cheap so you don’t want to waste your money.

We thought this was a perfect time to review Varsity  Ascend as they soon will be able to all at Future Cheer competition.  We are going to tell you everything about these shoes so you can make an informed purchasing decision.

Varsity Ascend are the lightest cheer shoes in Varsity history! But how much do they accurately weigh? The shoes weigh between 3.8 to 4 0z for standard size 6/ 7, which is perfect for an elite athlete.

When you put these shoes on your feet the first thing you will notice is how comfortable they feel. Inside the shoe is a foam insole made of high-grade memory foam, it’s designed for comfort and feels like you’re getting a little massage from your shoes – bliss.

As cheerleading advances and athletes are expected to constantly tumble throughout a routine, we need a shoe that can handle a large amount of impact.

The Varsity Ascend are made to handle the impact of tumbling. The heel and foam insole absorb the shock which helps to protect your feet.

There are also two cushion like pads on the back of the shoes, which are designed to secure the heel in place, and shield delicate areas like the Achilles tendon from the demand of tumbling and stunting.

Once we move on from the comfort overload, you will notice the large mesh panel on the shoe. The mesh is made of a high-grade grid netting which is there to of course, help with the weight, but also help to ventilate the shoe. It’s so soft which adds to the comfort level, and it’s breathable to stop the foot from getting sweaty.

There are also grey triangles on the back of the shoes. You would think the triangle detail is there to be aesthetically pleasing, which it is, but it’s real purpose is to support the ankle when having the shoe properly laced and synched. It is meant to help support the side structure of the shoes.

It’s nice to know that Varsity have really thought about the cheer community when making a cheer shoe. They understand that as the sport rapidly progresses and athletes are pushing their bodies to the limit of what they are capable of, they need a shoe that caters to that, and they have delivered.

Appearance of the shoe

I know the appearance of the shoe shouldn’t matter, but it does. The varsity Ascends are a very sleek shoe. It’s a sexy shoe, a shoe that catches your eye and stands out from the crowd. It does make you feel like an elite athlete ready to dominate on the mat. Another thing that we like about this shoe is because it’s so sleek it makes your foot look smaller. This really will not matter if you have small feet, but if you have larger feet like myself, then it’s a little side note.

How to care for your shoes

If you’re a base, you’re fortunate enough to know that your shoes are going to basically stay clean all season, unless you do something crazy to get them messy. But if you’re a Flyer it’s a different story. It’s only a matter of time until your shoes start turning off white, especially your flyer floor foot.

CFHTT cleaning tips 

The best way to keep the varsity ascend clean is to soak them in water with a little bit of washing powder in it. They can be scrubbed gently with a soft brush or old tooth brush, and then simply left to air dry, do not put them in the tumble dryer. Take the insole out first to make sure the memory foam keeps it´s form.

Remember these are indoor shoes so do not wear them outside if you want them to last.
