Hi guys,
As cheerleading grows bigger every day in the UK it is great to see a University reflecting their experiences to the worlds. Doing Cheerleading at university was one of the best decisions CFHTT ever made and we are curious to see other student experiences of the sport. That why CFHTT sat down and interview BU Falcon about their web series Cheer Degree.
Hi BU Falcons :)
Hi Cheer From Head To Toe :)
-
Tell us a bit about the history of BU Falcons
The BU Falcons are Bournemouth University’s Cheerleading team, we established in 2012 with just an all girl level 3 team. The team was set up by Anna Busby and a small committee who helped. We have expanded very rapidly since then, winning several titles at the BCA university nationals. We also have a really strong presence on our campus as we are always performing at sports games, charity events and other performances.
-
How many teams do the BU falcons currently have?
The BU Falcons now have over 60+ members, who make up an open co-ed level 3 cheer team, open small hip hop, open large pom and we have 5 open stunt groups: level 1, level 2, level 3, coed level 3, and level 4.

What inspired your team to create this web series?
A lot of our team members watched other YouTube series such as “Cheerleaders” and “CheerHab” with Eddie and Orby, and they were always joking about how we should have one as there is always some new drama within the team, especially as we are all “adults”
-
What should the viewers expect to see from this show?
We want to show the good, the bad, and the ugly without sugar coating it. We know we aren’t perfect or amazing but we are real. The team are all such lovely characters as well, I think the audience will be able to connect with them and cheer for them as they are trained into hopefully an awarding wining team. We are going to show episodes featuring how the try-out process works, how the team train weekly, the other adventures we get up to outside of training and our exciting journey to university nationals in a few months’ time.

What do the BU falcons hope to achieve by releasing this show to the general public
University cheerleading in the UK is quite different from the all-star or USA collegiate teams. Most of our members have never cheered before and they have to learn pretty quickly. We also have commitments to the university in terms of supporting the American football and basketball games. We want to show this side of the cheer world and hopefully promote cheerleading positively. We also want to raise the profile of our team and consequently the university. It would be amazing if we could acquire a sponsor through the series. Also It would be great if the younger audience could see the connection between achieving good grades in school and how that could lead to attending university and being a part of a team like ours.
-
How long will each episode roughly be and how many episodes should we expect?
Each episode will be roughly 6-12 minutes, averaging around 8 minutes. We will release an episode every Monday at 12noon until June – after the university year ends.

-
How is the web series made? Is the show made solely by team members?
The team are lucky enough to have a connection to Evangelos Pipis who works for Bournemouth University, he does all the filming and the editing of each episode. (evangelos.pipis@me.com)
-
How does Bournemouth University feel about you making this show? Do they support you?
We have a lot of support from our student’s union (SUBU) they help with our running costs and any training requirements we have. I think they are just as excited to watch it as we are.
