Surrey Twisters, founded in 2011 by Georgie Markwell has launch Surrey Twister Sunshine .
Surrey Twister Sunshine Is a cheer team set up for children and adults with special needs, a chance for them to exercise, mix with others and to have fun! These classes are free and companies help sponsor us so they are able to give them training kit and performance kit for free to.
This team was set up by Georgie Markwell the programme director of Surrey Twisters, Georgie had been around special needs all her life and seen the struggle families go through as her Uncle was special needs and sadly passed away in January 2012, this then pushed her into setting up something in his memory and carrying on his legacy.
In order to run this properly you need a team of coaches who’s passion for not only this sport but for helping kids and adults with special needs too, means everything to them. Twisters Sunshine are lucky to have this. Working alongside Georgie are Susan Mills and Fran Tomkins, who both work and teach with Special Needs children at schools in the local community.
Surrey Twisters Sunshine aims to give children and adults a fun and exciting opportunity, whilst giving them a sense of security and confidence to help them progress in their every day life – something which is often needed!
They have their fingers crossed that there team debut at Future Cheer National in July something they are extremely excited about!
