USASF/IASF All-Star Cheer Divisions for 2012-2013

Breaking cheer news which is sending many programmes in to confusion is the  USASF/IASF All-Star Cheer Divisions for 2011-2012 cheer rules  which in 2012-2013 Future Cheer and ICC will be also following.

Check out the age grid

What this grid basically is stating is that

Tiny under 6

Minis 6-8

Youths 9-11

Juniors 12-14

Seniors 14-17

Adult 18

and anyone over the age of 18 with have to be in a level 5 team,Yes you heard right a level 5 team.

The concerns that  many people over the age of 18  are going to be alienated especially the university teams which  just don’t have the time to progress to level 5 in the 3-4 years they have. Following on from this adult Tumbling classes are not widely available across the UK, so even for people who are desperate to progress there tumbles can’t.                                                                                                                                     Further more people feel that it is also seen as a slap in the face because it is with the help of older members who have made cheerleading what it is today.

On the pro side people fully understand that cheerleading in the UK needs to progress and there is never going to be a good time to implement these rules.  We do feel in the long term this is going to be very beneficial to UK cheerleading but in the short term it will be very damaging to these to competitions but there is no reward without risk. This is why we think Future cheer and ICC will adapt these rules to suit the UK cheerleading world because at the end of the day these companies are about making profits and we don’t think they are prepared to lose such large amounts of money by programs not attending these competitions.

Future cheers have giving this statement

Hi,

Nothing has been set in stone regarding numbers on teams as yet but we plan to make an announcement with ICC regarding this by October 1st 2011, giving you all a year’s notice to prepare for any changes.                                                        As mentioned in my previous post, we recognise that the UK industry is different to the US in many ways and we will be taking this into account. It will not be our intention to prevent growth in the UK or to alienate any age group from competing at a level suitable to their skill set. Once again, please contact me by email if you have any feedback and I will be happy to respond.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Best Amanda                                                                                                                                                                                                          Future Cheer

So let’s just hope that these competitions evaluate this decision from every angle.

  1. so about level 5, are you saying that in the 2012-2013 season athletes over the age of 18 will be able to compete in senior level 5 teams?

    1. Hello Damontrae
Yes, futurecheer has not released a statement like they said to confirm the rule changes on 1 st October so going on what they have said in previous statements any one over the age of 18 will have to enter a level 5 team if they wish to compete.

      1. omg thats awesome!! because this is my first year doing competitive cheer and i love it but im 17, so i wouldnt have had that much longer to do level 5 cheer, but now since the age grid will change, i’ll be able to cheer more. thank you for answering my question!
